I want to create a safe and fun experience with my students. Everyone has moments in life that can be hard and want to give up. My parents have supported my art, and I know some children don't have that support. I want to give hope to my student and encourage them to be who they are and what they can create with art. My earliest memory of art would be five years ago in community college. I was in a different major and decided to take an art class for fun. Who would have known that a great art teacher who loves what they do can significantly impact someone's life? That is what I want to do for my students.
I'm glad I took that class because an art teacher discouraged my art in high school, making me feel useless, and it made me not pursue art. Todd, my professor, was so encouraging that he made me love art again; he influenced me to become the person I am today. His teaching inspired me to become an art teacher. I would stay after class and talk to him to give me feedback. There was a way he presented the feedback adequately. I want to be a teacher who encourages creativity, makes them feel safe and comfortable expressing themselves through art without judging how it looks, and gives positive feedback because I believe they're a way to help sufficiently.
